NURSING TEAM SUPERVISOR/NURSE SUPPORT PAEDIATRICS BASED IN YEMEN OR AFGHANISTAN)

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
In Yemen or Afghanistan MSF Spain projects the Nurse Team Supervisor will support the Nurse Activity Manager (NAM) to plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action. Technical capacity building of nursing staff in the pediatric and neonatology areas.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The main focus will be in Capacity building (check specific accountabilities). The Nurse pediatric support, will also collaborate with the national NTSs (ITFC, Pediatrics and NN wards) in their daily routines that are:
  • Technically supporting the nurse associated team, supervising the learning and development of the paediatric and neonatology’s (NN) department’s nurses and assistants.
  • Defining training needs, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality for the areas of paediatric, ITFC and neonatal care.
  • Supports each nurse/nurse/nutritional assistant in the self-assessment of competencies, in drafting a plan for self-improvement and supports them in its implementation.
  • Will ensure that MSF IPC guidelines are followed by nurses/nurses, nutrition assistants (use of gloves, disinfection, Aseptic Non-Touch Technique etc) and will inform the NAM if equiment and material is needed.
  • Ensure the transfer of knowledge from formal training to daily practice through coaching and on the job training (in coordination with the national Nursing Team supervisors)
  • Together with the local hired staff supervisors, ensure that MSF protocols for paediatric, ITFC and neonatal care and IPC are followed by the nursing teams.
  • Ensuring that the paediatric, NN and ITFC staff is able to identify, receive and provide care to the admitted patients following the MSF protocols.
  • Supervising the pharmacy and medical equipment management, as data collection and elaborating medical reports if necessary.
  • Organizing and coordinating the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.),
  • Together with the local hired staff supervisor will review the files with nurses in each room (to ensure adherance to protocols).
  • Will support the nursing team in improving the documentation, ensuring it is correct and complete.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of the health promotion activities in pediatric departments
  • In tandem with other supervisors, conduct morning report and ward briefings.
  • In coordination with the local hired staff supervisors will ensure that communication from nurses to patient is done clearly and effectively.
  • Reinforce breastfeeding.

 

Expériences / Formation

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Nurse diploma essential. Pediatric specialty is an asset.
  • Nursing registration.
  • Essential 4 years of previous experience in Pediatrics: Neonatology.
  • Desirable: Experience in supervising, managing, and training of staff and field experience with other NGOs.
  • Mission and local language essential. English language high intermediate level (B2) required.
  • Knowledge of a second languages French, Arabic, Spanish and/or Portuguese is desirable.
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet).
