Smurfit Westrock Foundation Grants

Objective:
The Smurfit Westrock Foundation provides financial support to sustainable projects benefiting underprivileged communities in the areas of health and nutrition, education, and basic care. The projects must align with at least one of the Foundation’s priority UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Application deadline: Rolling applications, reviewed at quarterly Board Meetings in February, May, September, and November. Applications must be submitted at least one month before a board meeting to be considered.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a registered nonprofit or charity.
  • Must directly benefit underprivileged communities.
  • Must focus on health and nutrition, education, or basic care.
  • Must be sustainable, ensuring long-term financial viability and positive impact.
  • Must serve a public benefit, not a private or commercial interest.
  • Must operate in a community where Smurfit Westrock is present.

Ineligible activities include:

  • Salaries and general running costs (unless part of an eligible project).
  • General fundraising appeals.
  • One-time events, academic research, professional qualifications.
  • Religious or political causes, sports teams, startup costs.
  • Recurrent funding and projects funded by government bodies.

Countries covered:
Eligible applicants must be based in a country where Smurfit Westrock operates, including: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.

Grant amount: Minimum €10,000.

  • Only applications submitted via the online form are considered.
  • Applicants must pass an eligibility test before accessing the full application form.
  • The review process includes a multi-stage evaluation by the Foundation Manager, Board members, and Advisors before a final decision by the Foundation’s Board.
  • Successful applicants must sign a grant agreement via DocuSign before receiving funding.

Additional information:

  • Grants are one-time only (no recurrent funding).
  • Feedback is not provided for unsuccessful applications due to high demand.
  • Unsuccessful applicants will be notified at different stages of the review process.
